Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Nears Release Following Australian Rating
The highly anticipated Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the latest high-octane kart racing spinoff from the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is nearing its long-awaited release. The game recently received an official age rating in Australia, a strong indicator that Sonic and friends will be burning rubber across interdimensional tracks sooner rather than later.
First revealed during Sony’s State of Play event on February 12, 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds promises to take the beloved gameplay formula of previous entries like Team Sonic Racing and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing to a whole new level. The game’s central mechanic revolves around the use of “Travel Rings” to warp racers into new dimensions mid-race, allowing for dynamic courses that span land, sea, air, space, and even time itself.

According to official game descriptions, players will have access to both solo and team-based modes, with options for offline and online competition. Racers can test their skills against rivals worldwide or enjoy local split-screen multiplayer with friends. The game also places a heavy emphasis on customization, allowing players to build their own racing machines tailored to their playstyle and unlock special skills for strategic advantages on the track. And of course, no Sonic Racing game would be complete without an array of power-up items to collect and deploy.
While Sega and Sonic Team have not yet announced an exact launch date, the game’s Steam page and other sources point to a planned release window sometime in 2025. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be available on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, and Windows PC. Diehard fans can also look forward to a Digital Deluxe Edition that will offer early access, though specifics have yet to be revealed.
With a closed beta test already underway for PlayStation 5, it’s clear that development on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is entering the final stretch. As anticipation builds in the Sonic fandom and the wider gaming community, this dimension-hopping racing extravaganza could very well be the next must-play multiplayer hit. Start your engines and prepare to enter the CrossWorlds — the green flag is about to drop!
